Basilicata


Basilicata, also known as Lucania, is an almost completely mountainous region with the exception of a few areas by the Gulf of Taranto and the Gulf of Policastro. The ruins of the Greek cities of Metapontus and Policorus are a must for visitors. Despite the limited extent of its coastline Basilicata has enchanting seaside areas and towns: Maratea is certainly worth visiting.
Do not miss the opportunity of visiting Matera with the famous Sassi di Matera, a Unesco World Heritage.
The Pollino National Park , between Basilicata and Calabria, is the largest protected area in Italy.
