Calabria

Calabria is an elongated region with coasts on the Tyrrhenian and the Ionian seas. The name Calabria was given to this region during the Byzantine era but it was called Brutium by the Romans. There are three protected areas in Calabria: the Aspromonte National Park, the Calabria National Park and the Pollino National Park. Tourism in Calabria is generally limited to the coastal areas. The most famous tourist destinations are Tropea, Amantea and Soverato. Do not miss the opportunity of visiting the medieval town of Gerace, where houses have been carved into the mountain side; the archaeological sites of Locri and Sibari are very interesting.
