There are very few mountains and hills in Veneto but plenty of rivers. The name, which derives from the ancient Illyrian people called Veneti, was used from the second half of the XVIII century onwards and referred to a vast area of land.
Veneto shares Lago di Garda with Lombardy and Trentino Alto Adige. The shores of this lake in Veneto attract a good number of tourists.
There are plenty of very different tourist attractions in this area: important historic and artistic towns include Venice, Padua and Verona; there are bathing resorts are in Jesolo, lido di Venezia and more, lake resorts can be found on the shores of Lake Garda and tourist resorts in the Dolomites.
